Philadelphia Restaurants Giving Back.

We love Philly. You love Philly. Which is why it’s so hard to see what’s happening here right now. Restaurant workers are being laid off, healthcare professionals are battling on the frontlines, and people who need a hot meal are having a hard time getting one.

But you should also know about all the amazing ways that Philly restaurants are supporting people in need right now, and how you can support them as well. Chefs and restaurant teams are delivering pizzas to hospitals and seniors, providing free lunches for school kids and first responders, and making to-go kits with things like groceries and sanitary items for those who have been laid off or furloughed. The below are just a few restaurants giving back.

South Philly Barbacoa South Philly Barbacoa has been working to provide as many free meals as they can for delivery to low-income elderly, youth, and other at-risk people around the city.

Kalaya Thai Kitchen Ever since restaurants have been closed for dine-in, Kalaya has been serving nightly “Phamily” meals to unemployed restaurant workers and anyone else in need. Tons of other restaurants have jumped in and helped out by donating food and unused produce to the cause as well. In addition, they’re offering a 30% discount on delivery and takeout orders to hospital workers.

Dig recently launched a program they’re calling “Dig Feeds,” which donates one bowl of food to people in need for every bowl sold. In Philly, they’re currently helping Broad Street Ministries to hand out over 400 lunches per day to those in need, and are looking for additional organizations to support. Anyone wanting to recommend a group to receive food can email ideas@diginn.com, or text “dig feeds” to 80519.

Brewerytown sandwich shop Spot Gourmet Burgers is using their extra produce and supplies to make free meals for people who’ve lost their job and for kids who rely on being fed at school.
